Welcome to the dawning of a new day.

We want change. 

We don’t want to burden our children and grandchildren with an out of control debt totaling more than 9 trillion dollars. 

We want our elected representatives to work toward solutions not continue to institute expensive band aids and promote fear. 

We want to see the solutions we know are working in our communities – supported and implemented throughout our state and our country. 

I believe our greatest moments lie ahead. 

I’ve trained my whole life at connecting people and facilitating change. 

We, the Annie Loyd for Congress Campaign, IS – - a real choice for real change.  

We promise to find and focus on common goals. 

We are a real choice for real change from the business of politics as usual.

We promise to build bridges and break through the chains of fear and frustration. 

NOW is the time to remember what it means to be an American. Americans work together. 

Now is the time to solve our problems with the creativity and the can do spirit that lifted the Wright brothers off a wind swept field at Kitty Hawk, that freed children from the paralysis of polio, that extended the right to vote to everyone despite race, gender or class.  

This is the time to bring our creativity and can do spirit, so uniquely American, to bear on addressing the systemic issues of violence, on becoming the leader in new energy solutions, on providing the best education possible for our children, on returning immigration to an opportunity for hope in which those coming to our nation do so through an effective route embracing them as it did our grandfathers and grandmothers.  

Our immigrant history has brought us the Wright brothers plane -The Flyer – Jonas Salk’s vaccine for polio and the freedom to vote for the candidate of your choice. 

We Americans – We Arizonans – EMBODY the can do spirit. 

I acknowledge your hesitancy to trust anybody in politics. That concern is legitimate.  

We’ve elected leaders decade after decade entrusting them with our dreams.  

Believing – - they would do what they promised to do. Yet, sadly, our dreams have faded and we have become more disappointed and less engaged, so many have lost hope that anything will ever change. 

For many of us the dream seems lost, unattainable – gone. 

By waiting for others to do it, we’re in the shape we’re in today – right now.  

I remind you the American dream is only lost when we fail to pursue it NO ONE can take it away from us.  It is time for a fresh perspective.  

This is the dawning of a new day.  

Our truth is  . . . We have lived in a culture conditioned by fear. 

We have been taught to focus on our differences.  

We have been led to believe party politics trumps politics for the people and by the people.  

Partisan politics has brought out the worst in us as a country and as individuals. 

Our campaign is routed in the belief of personal responsibility. There is no one person or party to blame we are all responsible for righting this mighty ship.  

As unaffiliated voters, as independents, as Democrats and Republicans we stand here today seeking a newer world.

 In words of the Hopi elders, “This is the eleventh hour. We are the leaders we’ve been waiting for.”We Arizonan’s are real mavericks – we are the innovators of change – we live the can do spirit We can and will demonstrate how we can build bridges and work together.

It is time we remember – the connections we have amongst each other are deeper than our differences.

The American dream encompasses our greatness.

While creating our “policy statements” It became obvious to me that there is culpability on both sides of all of the topics of great interest to us, of great interest to – “we the people.” It is unacceptable at this point in the game to point the finger and place the blame on any one individual, organization, special interest group or political party – we all have played a role in the creation of our current situation and all have a role to play in building the road that will lead us forward. Blaming creates walls and hurdles that individuals, organizations or institutions feel compelled to tear down, crawl over or under, or maintain or defend.

Today, we have an opportunity to believe together – we can, to believe together we can transform these existing walls into trampolines that can propel us up and over the fires of fear and forge a new path for opportunities, sustainability and resiliency. Transformation of our existing systems into processes will take a concerted effort by all of us.

For example, let’s look at healthcare. Currently, we have a system that evaluates and regulates sick care. Let’s transform this system into one that creates incentives and supports the health care of the individuals, the providers, the organizations and the institutions. This requires acknowledging we all have a role to play and all sides of the coin have responsibilities to accept. We the people are being challenged to take responsibility for the “care of our health” – we have a responsibility to eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly, create and maintain a healthy physical, spiritual, emotional and mental balance in our individual lives and encourage and support that in our families, friends, co-workers and community. Our health care providers have a responsibility to create a working relationship with their patients, stay up to date on their area of expertise, deliver responsible, efficient practices and participate in the civic engagement of policy decisions. Our payer system, i.e. insurance companies and our governmental agencies must support the effective and efficient patient – health care provider model thus instituting best decisions for health care are made between the doctor and the patient – from a medical standpoint, and not one of “cost first” – quality second. Our hospitals and medical institutions have the responsibility of accepting input from nurses, doctors, and payers – I think you get the point. Accept responsibility for failures and be part of creating solutions. 

Immigration: The U.S. government has the responsibility to go beyond enforcement of security at the border educating the American people with facts and not fanning the fires of fear. Real immigration reform policy begins with a political solution with governments and stakeholders south of the boarder and with our corporations and stakeholders in the U.S. thus creating solutions for effective equitable immigration reform. Responsibility rests with migrant workers seeking the American dream and adhering to the rules of this country. American employers have a responsibility to provide their workers with a safe, equitable and a law abiding environment. We the people must accept the responsibility for acquiring knowledge from all sides. Let us be part of the solution and not continue to build on fear. 

Education: Again, this is a multifaceted approach – parents have a responsibility to participate in the education of their children; children have a responsibility to understand they are part of the equation; teachers have a responsibility to be inspiring, and learn the new technology; administrators are the liaison of information – they are responsible for providing teachers with the necessary tools to teach, students with an environment that is safe and healthy to learn in, to interact and engage the participation of parents, include all in the decision making process and make the necessary adjustments to the system– be part of the solution. 

We all have a role to play.

We all have a responsibility to the creation, development and implementation of solutions. Together we can demonstrate to each other while reaffirming it for ourselves there is hope in creating a better America. When we combine personal responsibility with the understanding that our engagement or disengagement effects our community – one by one we will create the path to a sustainable community and resilient economy we all striving for. 

America stands for Independence. America stands for a voice. And we have the responsibility to ensure our voices are heard. Too many times I’ve heard: I’m not voting — it doesn’t make a difference — no one listens to me anyway.I’m a registered Independent because our voices matter and our call for change haven’t been heard. As Americans, we have a Constitution which is designed to protect our voice, the voice of the people. However, in order for our voices to be heard we must first speak.

I believe in leaders who take action, leaders who engage and inspire us, and leaders who encourage us to speak out and who listen to our voices. We’re asking you to step forward and have your voice be heard. We’re not asking you to re-register. We’re not asking you to change political party’s. We’re asking you to become engaged in your community, in your state, in your country.
